This exhibition showcases 14 works created over the past three years, excluding those presented overseas since the artist's international expansion into Taiwan, Beijing, and Shanghai began in 2014.
The past three years have been a period in which Jung Ki-woong reaffirmed his identity as a sculptor and expanded his distinctive sculptural style beyond Korea to Taiwan, Beijing, and Shanghai. Jung is known for his unique method of depicting objects as they are, based on his own perception. He hammers, casts, and welds, creating works with irregular finishes that define his artistic signature. His sculptures engage deeply with the essence of humanity. As he states, "By appealing to inner reason, humans can attain a true understanding of external nature." He brings warmth and soul to each object he sculpts.
Jung's work is characterized by its compact, dynamic expressions achieved through metal sheet work, the interplay of planes and lines, and his unique textural quality. His masterful welding technique blends seamlessly with painterly color harmonies, producing seemingly spontaneous yet highly refined results. In an era where contemporary art often prioritizes shallow techniques and philosophy, Jung’s sculptural approach captures the essence of human life and explores its reality. His artistic method reveals his deep sense of purpose as a sculptor.
