Biography

Sooyeon Hong, born in Seoul in1967, is a distinguished Korean artist celebrated for her abstract acrylic paintings that explore the interplay of form and color. She earned both her Bachelor and Master of Fine Arts degrees from Hongik University in Seoul and furthered her studies with an additional MFA from Pratt Institute in New York.

Through out her career, Hong has showcased her work in numerous solo exhibitions across prominent venues, including  the Kumho  Museum and Posco Art Museum in Seoul, and the Sunnen Gallery in NewYork.

Her art has also been featured in various group exhibitions at esteemed institutions, such as the Saatchi Gallery in London, the Ilmin Museum in Seoul, and  the LWL-Industrie museum in Dortmund,Germany.

In addition to traditional gallery spaces, Hong'swork has been displayed in commercial venues accessible to the general public. Notably, her piece "LOTUS" was exhibited in the lobby and conference rooms of the Westin Chosun Seoul, allowing guests to engage with her art in a more casual setting. Furthermore, her artworks are part of the collectionsat several prestigious hotels and corporate spaces, including the Four Seasons Hotel Seoul,  IFC Conrad Hotel,  and the Samsung Seocho Building. Hong's paintings are characterized by their monochromatic palettes and subtle forms, inviting viewers to contemplate the continuum of life and the delicate balance between presence and absence. Hermeticulous layering technique creates a sense of depth and fluidity, reflecting her philosophical approach to art.
